Glass Replacement & Repairs In Collinsville

Dreger Glass & Aluminium provides glass replacement and repairs in Collinsville, working from our Bowen workshop, and we also supply, deliver and install new windows and doors, screens, wardrobes, shower screens and mirrors in the area. Most jobs involve windows, doors and general residential glazing, and many of the homes in the area have older aluminium systems where the glass has outlasted the hardware or the reverse.

We assess the pane, the frame, the seals and how the opening is used, then explain whether replacing the glass alone is the sensible approach. Openings are measured on site before anything is ordered, because a pane cut to the wrong size either will not go in or will sit pinched in the frame, which is how replacement glass ends up cracking again later.

When Glass Needs Repair Or Replacement

The glass supplied depends on the opening. Float glass covers standard residential windows, toughened glass is used wherever safety glass is required, and laminated glass adds strength while reducing noise through the pane.

Low-E glass limits heat transfer, which is worth considering on windows that take long hours of direct sun, and obscured glass gives privacy in bathrooms without blocking daylight. Matching the replacement to the glass and the system already in place is important on older homes in particular, since thickness and beading vary between aluminium systems, and a pane that does not suit the frame will never seal properly no matter how carefully it is fitted.

Matching Replacement Glass To The Existing System

Where a frame has corroded, a sash has dropped or a sliding panel no longer runs on its track, replacing the unit is usually better value than repeatedly reglazing it, and as a Bradnam's licensee we can supply their aluminium windows and doors for that work. Where the frame is sound, we replace the glass and leave the rest of the window alone.

Either way the assessment happens before the quote, so you know what is being replaced and why. Because all of our fabrication is done in our own Bowen workshop, replacement panes are made locally rather than ordered in from further afield.

Common questions

  • We identify the aluminium system in place and check the thickness, tint and finish of the surrounding glass, then supply a pane to suit. That way the new glass sits correctly in the frame with the right beading and seals, and it does not look different to the panes either side of it.

  • Accurate measurement, the correct glass type for the location, and installation with proper clearance and sealing. Those three things determine whether a replacement pane lasts. Safety glass requirements apply in certain positions as well, and a glazier knows where they apply.

  • Laminated glass has an interlayer bonding two sheets together, so it holds in place rather than falling out if it breaks. That interlayer also reduces noise transmission and filters some ultraviolet light, which helps limit fading of furnishings near the window.
