Glass Replacement & Repairs In Airlie Beach

Dreger Glass & Aluminium carries out glass replacement and repairs in Airlie Beach, covering windows, doors and everyday residential glazing, and we supply, deliver and install new windows and doors, screens, wardrobes, shower screens and mirrors, all fabricated in our Bowen workshop. Coastal properties tend to have plenty of glass, which means more openings to keep in good order and more scope for damage.

We look at each job on its own terms: the pane itself, the frame around it, the hardware and the seals, then explain whether a glass replacement is enough or whether the opening needs more attention. Sizes are measured on site, because glass cut from an assumed dimension either will not fit or will sit under stress in the frame, and both outcomes lead to another visit.

Glass For Privacy, Strength & Efficiency

Glass choice is worth thinking about properly on a property that gets strong afternoon sun. Low-E glass has a coating that reduces heat transfer through the pane, which helps keep rooms more comfortable and eases the load on air conditioning, and it is a straightforward upgrade when a window is being reglazed anyway.

Laminated glass adds strength and reduces noise, toughened glass is used wherever safety glass is required, and float glass remains the standard choice for ordinary openings. Obscured glass is the usual answer in bathrooms, ensuites and any window where privacy is wanted without losing daylight.

Any of these can be supplied as part of a replacement rather than simply repeating what was there before.

A Better Fit For Existing Openings

Matching new glass to an existing aluminium system is part of doing the job properly. Different window and door systems take different glass thicknesses and beading, so we identify the system before ordering so the pane sits correctly and stays weathertight.

Where the frame itself has corroded or a sliding panel no longer runs, replacing the unit is the better answer, and as a Bradnam's licensee we can supply their aluminium windows and doors for that work. Otherwise a single pane can be replaced and the rest of the window left alone.

Common questions

  • Yes. Low-E glass carries a coating that reflects a portion of radiant heat, so less of it passes through the window. Fitting Low-E glass when a pane is being replaced anyway is an easy improvement, particularly on windows that take direct sun for much of the day.

  • Obscured glass is the common choice. It is textured or patterned so it still lets daylight through while breaking up the view, which suits bathrooms, ensuites, toilets and windows close to a boundary. It is available in different patterns and levels of obscurity depending on how much screening is wanted.

  • In most cases yes. Provided the frame is sound and square and the hardware is working, the damaged pane is measured, made up and installed back into the same frame with new beading or seals as required. The rest of the window stays exactly as it is.
